When
England and Australia cross swords at Lord’s, things feel a little different.
The history
of the Ground is intertwined with the history of the Ashes. Even after over 100
years of battles, there’s history to be made. This year, Lord’s will host its
first double-Ashes summer: the intensity of this ancient rivalry never wanes;
it only increases.
In another
first, we will be hosting a unique, behind-the-scenes tour, drinks reception, wine tasting
experience, an exclusive object handling session, and a sumptuous three-course lunch and drinks on Wednesday 14
June, just two weeks before Australia’s return to Lord’s.
Fully
immerse yourself in the stories of Ashes encounters at Lord’s, beginning with a
drinks reception in the Pavilion’s atmospheric Bowlers’ Bar, before exploring
the history of the Ashes in our MCC Museum and handling rare objects that tell
the tale of The Ashes. The tour takes in our Real Tennis courts, where the Anglo-Australian
rivalry is as fierce as ever, as well as many famous rooms in the Pavilion,
including the Long Room and the Committee Room.
In the
drinks break, you will be joined by England star Angus Fraser and Australian
favourite Merv Hughes for a wine tasting session, with three English wines to
sample in the Home Dressing Room, and three Australian vintages in the Away
Dressing Room. Fraser and Hughes played 20 Ashes Tests between them and will
regale you with endlessly funny and fascinating tales of various Ashes
campaigns.
The second
part of the tour covers the rest of the Ground, including the Presidents’
Suite, offering a picture-perfect view of the pitch. Walk past the Father Time
Wall and see how many of the great Ashes moments are immortalised there, before
a trip up to the J.P. Morgan Media Centre, and a look inside the BBC TMS and
Shane Warne commentary boxes.
As a final
treat, you will experience what it’s like to dine like your heroes with a
delicious three-course meal, including drinks, from our renowned catering team
in the Players’ Dining Room.
